Our Story (An Overview)

At our last STL Writers Connect meeting on September 8th,2009 , we started a fun writing project to get us all familiar with blogging and posting, especially for those, like me, that have never blogged before.  The project is called “Our Story” and the concept goes something like this…The first sentance is introduced at the beginning of the story line. (Russ came up with our first sentence at the meeting on Tuesday). Then, the next writer picks up the sentence and adds their own creative story addition to tie in to the previous writers work. How the story progresses is up to each individual contributing writer. You could think of it as a chain story. I threw in a time machine because I love science fiction, but another writer might love history and want to go back to Ancient Rome and shake things up a little bit.

I wrote my piece in the first person, but you should use whichever point of view you are comfortable with.

There are only two guidelines that we felt we should follow.First, you can limit your story line to somewhere between 500 and 700 words, unless you feel that there are those few extra words that just have to be said. Second, keep your story within the PG rating.

Just be creative and have fun with it.

  1. Jessica,
Great intro to “our Story” This should be fun as well as helpful to developing skills of writing and blogging.
Glad you are being so diligent in your blogging. is it less stressful now?
    Great job

  2. It is less stressful, I liked Russ’s idea of the story, and can’t wait to see how it progresses as folks add their adventures. I also think it was a good idea to kind of manage this for a short time to get used to it. It was intimidating at first, but fun now. I think those folks that have never blogged before are going to get a kick out of this when they manage it and see how user friendly it is.
